Beth Cody: libertarian, Iowan, writer

Born in Ames, Beth Cody left Iowa at age 17 to study music, pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in Flute Performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Jobs in music performance being indeed scarce, she returned to her home state to study economics and Chinese at the University of Iowa, and then completed a Master’s Degree in International Finance at Brandeis University in Boston, Massachusetts. She spent two semesters studying in Beijing, China.

She worked for Alliant Energy in Cedar Rapids as a Financial Analyst for their Chinese joint ventures before moving to Iowa City and buying a small business in Coralville.

Beth enjoys writing about local and national issues from a libertarian perspective, and wrote monthly opinion columns for the Iowa City Press-Citizen from March 2006 until February 2015. She started a libertarian student group at the University of Iowa and was an involved supporter of Ron Paul’s presidential campaign.

She is married with two children (whom she homeschools) and lives in rural Johnson County. Her other hobbies include reading history and Golden-Age British mysteries, and gardening.
